After years of breeding diligently to straight forelegs, better angled dogs with silkier coats,
we began producing more of the Cuban type dog, now known as The Havana Silk Dog rather
than the American type, which is the Havanese, both with lineage to their original
country of origin: Cuba. The Havana Silk Dog is more elegant in structure and has a flatter silkier coat
and is FREE of Chondrodysplasia. (please read this important info if you don't know what it is.)
This is the type we prefer at ERAS,
and the reason we now choose to breed only the Havana Silk Dog.

Many Havanese breeders are claiming to have Havana Silk Dogs too.
But only certified Havana Silk Dogs are true Havana Silk Dogs.
All of our breeding dogs at ERAS
are CERTIFIED Havana Silk Dogs and registered with the HSDAA.

to pick up your puppy.We are about 50 miles south of Chicago, Illinois,
and approximately an hour's drive from both Chicago Airports.
Many airlines will allow you to travel with your puppy in a
soft crate in the cabin with you under your seat. That is the only way our pups can fly.

What is an Havana Silk Dog? An Havana Silk Dog is a fully pedigreed dog, who is more or less "the phoenix that rose from the ashes" when a select number of breeders, several years ago, deliberately bred for a more elegant and totally non CD dog, in an effort to improve the health in the Havanese breed. In doing so, these dogs began to have a different look. A more elegant dog with a flatter silkier coat emerged, looking quite a bit different than the American Havanese. We heard it from HCA members and from AKC Judges alike, for a number of years, in fact. And after many years of research regarding the Arizona Conundrum and through the findings at TAMU research by Dr. Keith Murphy, we know that Havana Silk Dogs are different phenotypically and genetically from the Havanese. Havana Silk Dogs are fully health screened, DNA'd, evaluated for soundness, plus elegant neck and shoulders, a silky gorgeous coat, a short upper arm, happy springy gait, unique topline and & straight forelegs. They must be free of any "CD", which is associated with several health anomalies. The Havana Silk Dog has proven, through generations of breedings, to breed true and in line with Cuba's ancient breed. The Havana Silk Dog Association of America was formed specifically for the purpose of continuing preservation and restoration of Cuba's beautiful dog and strengthening it's soundness, health and beauty. Havana Silk Dogs must go through a critical physical hands on evaluation by a certified HSD Evaluator, before they are allowed full registration and certification, after the age of two. They must all be phenotypically Havana Silk Dogs versus having the look of simply the American Havanese breed. All Havana Silk Dogs, at this time, meet the standard of the AKC Havanese but not all Havanese can or will meet the criteria for an Havana Silk Dog. ALL true Havana Silk Dogs are certified and registered with the HSDAA. All of our puppies are now being registered with the Havana Silk Dog Association of America as well as with the AKC as Havanese
and will be eligible to compete in HSDAA shows and other rare breed venues, as well as AKC shows if the owner so desires.
